The British Polio Fellowship (BPF) is a charity organisation dedicated to helping an estimated 120,000 people around the UK who suffer from polio and the later effects of Polio known as Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS). Polio is a neurological condition that can cause a number of unpleasant symptoms like joint pain, breathing problems, walking impairment and many more. The British Polio Fellowship's role is to help give much needed support both in the form of advice and financial aid to those who are left living with the later effects of Polio and/or have a developing condition. Polio makes life hard for anybody who suffers from it which is why the work the Fellowship does is so important. The Fellowship also organises social events such as PPS Day where people who suffer from Polio can talk with other people who have the condition as well as attend first hand presentations and workshops from the Fellowship staff. Many people today assume that Polio has been "eradicated" from Britain and the West in general but they fail to see that there are still people alive today who suffer from the terrible effects of it, effects they have had to live with for the majority of their lives. This is why the British Polio Fellowship slogan is "120,000 reasons why we are here" There are 120,000 people in the UK who need help and support.
