Charities
Thrive (Registered as The Society for Horticultural Therapy), is the gardening for health charity who help to improve people's physical and mental health through gardening and horticulture. At our three centres in London, Birmingham and Reading we offer calm, safe spaces for people to connect with nature and with others through group gardening sessions facilitated by a trained practitioner. We refer to this practice as Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH). Over 40+ years as a charity we have seen the huge difference STH makes for people from a wide variety of demographics, health conditions and disabilities. The ways in which we support people very much depend on the needs of each individual. We might be supporting someone who has just had a stroke to realise their potential through using adaptive tools, supporting someone with autism to communicate and build friendships or providing support through our Get Gardening tools to help people reduce feelings of low mood, isolation and loneliness. Thrive can offer profound, positive change irrespective of knowledge or experience. Thrive are the UK’s leading provider for Social and Therapeutic Horticulture training. We train hundreds of people each year on how to use STH to change lives, thus empowering other organisations to use STH to change more lives and creating a positive ripple effect into the 1,000s. Our courses have both face-to-face and online learning options, with both consistently receiving excellent feedback.

TLC Children’s Trust provides for 56 children at the Home of Peace Children’s Home in Kenya. The Home of Peace Children’s Home is registered with the Kenyan Government and subject to regular inspections by the Dept. of Children’s Services. The children are placed with us by the Children’s Court who also review their committal on a regular basis. The home is monitored on a daily basis by TLC and we check all financial records to ensure funds are used wisely and correctly Without our support, these children would be left to live on the streets and many would no doubt die. We provide them with accommodation, food, education, clothing, medical care and the attention of our staff who have a real desire to do their best for these children.
We provide funding to poorest students for books, clothing, extra tuition to help them finish school. We concentrate on rural Cambodia which lags behind the urban areas. 25% of students live at school, many more live with relations or at the monastery because it is too far to travel home. We also provide basic IT education to help students understand Google, web-browsing, email and most importantly stay-safe-online. These subjects not taught in schools.
