Charities
People with experience of mental illness, and those who care for them, are at the heart of everything we do. They shape our expert advice, information and training and 90 services. They also drive our campaigning and help to run over 140 local support groups. Supporting all this life-changing work are our incredible supporters, volunteers and staff members.
We are the only UK-based charity dedicated solely to working for people affected by inherited retinal conditions that cause progressive sight loss. We support people affected by inherited sight loss to lead better lives today, and fund medical research to accelerate the search for treatments for the future. We rely entirely on the generosity of our supporters to fund our vital work, and we are so grateful to everyone who chooses to fundraise for Retina UK. With your help, we will make our vision, of a world where everyone with inherited sight loss is able to live a fulfilling life a reality.
For over 25 years, our nationwide army of volunteers have been finding loving homes for greyhounds (nearly 30,000 so far!). We take in needy greyhounds and care for them until appropriate homes can be found. We are the only national charity which concentrates all it's efforts on improving the lot of greyhounds.
Rett UK is the only UK charity which provides professional support to people living with Rett syndrome across the UK. Rett UK was founded in 1985 round a kitchen table by Yvonne Milne MBE. Since then we have grown to be the leading provider of information to not only families but also medical professionals new to the world of Rett syndrome. Rett UK supports our families through a national helpline, including telephone, email and social media support, co-ordinate Rett specialist clinics in conjunction with the NHS, organise local support groups, as well as regional days and have a dedicated parental contact network. We also provide training for people who are supporting someone with Rett syndrome whether that is in a school, college, day centre, supported living, respite or residential setting.
We provide food, clothing, toiletries and support to London's homeless. Our volunteers serve meals 365 days a year as well as handing out clean clothes, sleeping bags and personal hygiene products. We also provide a range of classes for the homeless, including IT, life skills, and English as a foreign language, to people to rebuild their confidence and find employment.
At Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), our horses benefit the lives of over 17,000 disabled children and adults. With fun activities like riding and carriage driving, we provide therapy, fitness, skills development and opportunities for achievement – all supported by 13,000 amazing volunteers and qualified coaches at nearly 500 RDA centres all over the UK. RDA is an inclusive and diverse organisation. We welcome clients with physical and learning disabilities and autism, and there are no age restrictions. Through our network of member groups, RDA is at work in every corner of the UK, in our cities and remote rural areas, bringing the therapy, achievement and fun of horses to as many people as we can. We are a charity, and we can only carry out our life-changing activities thanks to the generosity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers and the good nature of our fantastic horses.
