Charities
Petals is the Baby Loss Counselling Charity. We provide free-of-charge specialist counselling to support the mental health of women, men and couples who experience pregnancy or baby loss. Our counsellors provide a safe space to guide parents through the grief and trauma of their devastating experience to a place of reconciliation and hope for the future. Our national online video counselling service provides psychological support to people across the UK, and in some areas we also provide counselling in person, in partnership with hospital Trusts.
Pets As Therapy (PAT) is a national charity that enhances the health and wellbeing of thousands of people in communities across the UK. We strive to ensure that everyone, no matter their circumstances, has access to the companionship of an animal. Our volunteers and their temperament-assessed pets visit establishments such as care homes, hospitals, hospices, schools and prisons, and bring smiles to many faces. People of all ages get the chance to chat to someone — and stroke and cuddle a friendly dog or cat.
Phab enables people of all abilities to make more of life together - breaking down community barriers, reducing social isolation, and creating opportunities for disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy the same activities and challenges side by side. This is achieved through: • A network of 150 Phab Clubs across England and Wales for children, young people and adults with disabilities, providing regular social activities and friendship for 8,000 members • Our annual programme of challenging and exciting Inclusive Living Experience Residential Projects for disabled or disadvantaged children and young people, building confidence, independence, practical and personal skills, and self-belief whilst all having great fun together • Our work with schools and universities to develop Phab Clubs and holiday projects run by students • Two wheelchair accessible holiday homes in Dorset for families and friends to enjoy a break away together, knowing all they need will be in place for them when they arrive.
Established in 1970, Physcap is a Yorkshire based charity run completely by volunteers. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for children suffering from severe physical and mental disabilities within the Yorkshire area. We are the last resort for families who may have limited funds to buy specialist or therapeutic equipment for their children to help make their lives a little easier. We work very closely with therapists, hospitals and local specialist schools in our area who know our reputation and refer many families to us. In the past, we have supported children with conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Cats Eye Syndrome, Angelman’s Syndrome and Muscular Dystrophy to name but a few. Over the past 25 years we have provided countless families with equipment ranging from touch screen computer systems and adapted treadmills to electric buggies and specially adapted trikes. We’ve also helped with funding for children who require both therapy and conductive education. Over the past few years, we have purchased equipment enabling a teenager to speak to his family for the first time by means of an electronic ‘Touch Talker’; helped fund an operation in the US for a little girl suffering from SDR. We also funded a ‘Twinkle Eye’ switch – which helped a paralysed young girl activate a computer by herself and communicate for the first time.
