Since 1923, SPANA, The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad has supported working animals that loyally serve low-income countries.  Operating through a global network of veterinary centres and mobile clinics, we provide lifesaving care for donkeys, horses, mules, camels and oxen who do the work of tractors, trucks and taxis, enabling people to make a living to support their families and coommunities.  As part of SPANA's programme of activities, we treat working animals in need of veterinary aid, train owners in good animal care and teach children good animal welfare - all to transform the welfare of working animals.

We aim to close the opportunity gap and level the playing field for all 11-—to 19-year-olds from state schools and colleges by providing fair access to fully funded work experience and inspirational talks that will help them reach their full career potential. We are committed to using our influence to champion social mobility and improve diversity in the workplace.

We will work tirelessly to raise awareness of SMA, to be a leading advocate for individuals and families and to ensure timely access to diagnosis, effective treatment and best management for all affected by SMA. ​ We will listen to and support our community to make informed choices and will bring together skills, knowledge and resources in the UK and beyond, in our quest to optimise the future lives of all affected by SMA.

We are the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis. Spinal cord injury is devastating to the person, and their family and friends. More than 50,000 people in the UK and Ireland are living with paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Our vision is a world where it is no longer a life sentence, we believe that one day we will live in a world where it is possible to prevent and reverse paralysis, restoring meaningful function lost through spinal cord injury.
