Hospices
Every year, The Hospice of St Francis supports over 2,000 people who are living with a life-limiting illness in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We provide support to individuals in one of our 14 Hospice beds, in their own homes or as outpatients through clinics, courses, physiotherapy, practical and spiritual advice and complementary therapy at our health and wellbeing Spring Centre. We also support families and carers. All our care is provided free and we rely on donations for more than 80% of our £4.8m annual running costs.
In 2005 Margaret Howat was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. The treatment is punishing and extremely experimental, and through the guidance of Professor Tessa Holyoake (Professor of Experimental Haematology at Glasgow University) and her team, she has had a Bone Marrow transplant and now leads a very normal life. The Howat Foundation was founded by Malcolm and Margaret Howat in 2009. We are proud to support cancer research at the University of Glasgow, and we hope you will join us.
