The Mobility Scheme
The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to use their motability allowances to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair without the worry of owning and running one. The scheme is open to those who receive the Higher Rate Motability Component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), War Pensioners' Motability Supplement (WPMS), the Enhanced Rate Motability Component of Personal Independent Payment (PIP) or the Enhanced Rate Motability Component of Armed Forces Indepedence Payment (AFIP).
The Motability Scheme is operated by Motability Operations Limited under contract to Motability. Family members or carers can drive the car on behalf of the disabled person covered with insurance for up to three named drivers. Servicing and breakdown assistance all included and car adaptations are also available. For more information on the Scheme, visit motability.co.uk or call (0300) 456 4566 Motability, the national charity, may be able to provide grants to disabled people towards the cost of a Vehicle Scheme, adaptations or driving lessons. Over a billion people in the world today have some form of disability. 80% of these people live in the developing world. We believe in helping to create a world where all disabled people are included and fully participate in every aspect of life. Wheelchairs are at the heart of our work – but not just any wheelchair. We believe passionately in providing the right wheelchair, in the right way. That means our wheelchairs are designed to deal with potholed roads, rough terrain and rural environments found in developing countries. At the same time we promote the importance of making sure that each wheelchair is individually fitted by a trained professional to World Health Organization standards. And this is just the start. To really put the wheels in motion, we work with partners and volunteers to make sure disabled people have support and training to be healthy, confident and included in society. They’re not the only ones to benefit: families, communities, even economies feel the positive change.
