Holly Hedge Animal Sanctuary is an independent charity that rescues and rehomes unwanted, abandoned and often mistreated cats and dogs. We receive no funding from the government and rely on the generosity and goodwill of our supporters. We rescue and rehome around 800 animals each year, finding loving homes for each and every one of them. It costs approximately £650,000 every year to run – that’s over £1,780 each and every single day.
The Holocaust Educational Trust was established in 1988. Our aim is to educate young people from every background about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned for today. The trust works in schools, universities and in the community to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust, providing teacher training, an outreach programme for schools, teaching aids and resource material. One of our earliest achievements was ensuring that the Holocaust formed part of the National Curriculum for History. We continue to play a leading role in training teachers on how best to teach the Holocaust. How the Trust Makes a Difference: Educates thousands of students across the UK. Trains and supports hundreds of teachers every year. Motivates future generations to speak out against intolerance Inspires individuals to consider their responsibilities to their communities. Works with Parliament and the media to help spread understanding of the Holocaust.
Home-Start volunteers offer support, friendship and practical help to families with young children who for many reasons, are finding it hard to cope. By visiting them regularly in their own home, the volunteer helps the family to cope with the pressures they are facing, reducing the potential for family crisis or breakdown.
We are a UK based humanitarian aid charity with volunteers spread throughout the UK. We are 100% volunteer led. Nobody takes a salary so all of the money you donate ends up in the hands of those who need it. Regional teams join together between two and four times a year to form a convoy of aid trucks driving for up to six days to reach our destination. Our current focus is the migrant crisis in Greece. With in excess of 60,000 refugees stranded in Greece at the moment this is where we see the greatest humanitarian aid need. The charity started in 1999 during the Balkans War and have supported the Balkans, Kosovo in particular throughout this period. Our last onvoy to Kosovo was in October 2016 as there is still a huge humanitarian need there. If practical, and achievable, we will respond to other world emergencies. Vulnerable individuals and families are identified for us by our partner NGO's in country who assist us to deliver the aid directly into the hands of the most needy. Working this way we can identify exact aid requirements and ensure these items are sourced prior to the departure of the convoys.
