We support young people who are: At risk of or affected by school exclusion, persistent absence, or placement in alternative provision Experiencing trauma, grief, loss, or poor mental and emotional wellbeing Impacted by violence, exploitation, or criminal justice involvement, including gang affiliation Facing systemic inequality, racism, poverty, faith-based discrimination, or marginalisation Neurodivergent or living with unmet additional needs that are often misunderstood or unsupported From communities with limited access to early intervention and therapeutic support Juvenis also works with: Families and caregivers who need trauma-informed guidance and support to better meet the needs of their children Schools, youth services, and community organisations seeking to strengthen their safeguarding, inclusion, and early intervention approaches Professionals and systems who benefit from our research, learning, and practice insight to improve outcomes for young people We prioritise young people whose voices are least heard and whose needs are often responded to late or punitively. Every day, in every country, children are abused, beaten, raped and more. Too often, the abuser is someone in an organisation that’s meant to help and protect children. An adult the child trusts. Keeping Children Safe represents a commitment by organisations worldwide to protect children by developing and promoting a set of robust and comprehensive International Child Safeguarding Standards that all organisations can and should follow to ensure all organisations protect children from exploitation and abuse.
The Kerala Balagram (Boys Village, Kerala) consists of homes for destitute and delinquent children. This is a major activity of the Ashram, which was founded in 1934. It has three cottages - Shanti Bhavan, Karuna Bhavan & Maitri Bhavan, where children and the Wardens stay. Children normally are of the general age group 5 to 18. Each cottage is under the care of a couple who serve as House parents. The children are given general education normally up to School final, though some promising children are sent to colleges as well. All boys are taught practical skills so as to equip themselves to secure jobs for self-support before they are discharged between the ages of 18 to 20.
