Charities
Listening Books is a national UK charity providing an audiobook library service catering for anyone who finds that an illness, disability, learning difficulty or mental health condition impacts on their ability to read or hold printed books in the usual way. Audiobooks can be a wonderful source of entertainment, comfort and relaxation for those who are missing out on the enjoyment of reading. We have nearly 8,000 fiction and non-fiction audiobooks in our library, for adults and children, from bestselling authors such as: J. K. Rowling, George R. R. Martin, John Le Carré, Lee Child, Agatha Christie, Philippa Gregory, Stephen Fry, and many more. Members can borrow titles in three easily accessible ways: • sent directly through the post on MP3 CD with no postage costs or late fees. • downloaded to a portable device like a phone or tablet • or streamed online via a laptop or computer. Membership starts from £20 per year and for anyone who would struggle to pay the membership fee, we do have a limited number of free memberships available. With a renewed sense of purpose, our beneficiaries are empowered to lead healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives.
We identify and reach out to children in London who are disabled or disadvantaged. We support children and the organisations that offer them activities and outreach support. Little Lives UK raises funds to ensure that the children we support have the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence to participate within their community.
Little People UK was co-founded in January 2012 by actor Warwick Davis, his wife Samantha and a group of individuals with the same goal; to offer friendship and support to people with dwarfism, their families and friends, and help build a positive future for those individuals. Since its inception, Little People UK has become a registered charity and an essential resource for the social, medical and financial needs of the little people community in the UK. To date it has attracted over 200 members, along with the support of highly respected Orthopaedic, Ophthalmic, Neurological and Anaesthetic consultant surgeons together with Physiotherapists and Educational practitioners, all of whom have a special interest in helping people with dwarfism. It is lead by a voluntary committee of 12 and one member of staff, that relies on fundraising and generous donations. Its committee is made up of both people with dwarfism and average height individuals, making for a very fair and compassionate group who can meet the needs of everyone, ensuring friendship and support is provided, whilst raising awareness of people with dwarfism and celebrating with great pride and positivity little peoples contribution to society.
