Lenderhand is a charity that has been set up to provide families and individuals in the county of Essex with assistance by paying for goods or services that they could not otherwise afford, providing a helping hand through the challenging periods of their lives. We appreciate that times can become tough due to difficult circumstances, and something small could make the biggest difference to your everyday life. If you are struggling financially, for instance finding the money to provide new clothes for your kids when you are struggling to put food on the table is hard, which is where we can help. At Lenderhand we pay for goods or services up to the value of £1,000, giving you the helping hand you need to get you back on your feet.

Disabled

One in five people in the UK will become disabled in their lifetime. For more than 75 years, we have worked directly with disabled people to give them the freedom to live their lives the way they choose, with the opportunity to fully take part in society. Today, our staff provide social care services that support disabled people across the UK to have greater levels of independence. Some of the people we support have very complex needs, requiring specialist nursing. In addition to offering high-quality care and support, we lead campaigns to influence government to implement legislation that positively benefits the lives of disabled people. As well as fighting for disabled people’s rights, we work with partners to deliver support and life-changing employment programmes.

Leukaemia Busters are working to develop new treatments based on antibodies that attack leukaemia and lymphoma cells directly without damaging normal cells in the patient's body. This will represent a major improvement over today's conventional chemotherapy where normal cells and tissues in the patient are damaged sometimes with fatal consequences and often with long term health consequences. We conduct focussed programmes of discovery research in our dedicated laboratory. The Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Laboratory at Southampton General Hospital work together with other scientists and doctors both at home and abroad. Working with others collaboratively is essential to making progress and allows us to draw on other expertise and achieve our objectives that more quickly. We promise never to squander money but will always spend donations we receive in the most effective way to achieve our research objectives.
